Sheedy was recently involved in the replacement of a large diesel engine and two electric generators on a cruise ship at the Port of San Francisco. The engine, which weighed 210,761 lbs., was flown from Europe to the San Francisco International Airport aboard an Antonov heavy lift cargo plane; one of the largest aircrafts of this type in the world. A second plane carried the two generators, each of which weighed 113,778 lbs.

Sheedy was contracted to hoist the three new machines off the aircraft’s loading ramp onto heavy haul trailers using a 350-ton hydraulic truck crane. Sheedy employed a 13-axle trailer to haul the engine and two 9-axle trailers to haul the generators from the airport to Pier 80, Port of San Francisco. The units were then hoisted onto a crane-mounted barge and transported to the cruise ship that was positioned in dry dock at Pier 70.

Finally, Sheedy was tasked to haul the old engine from the port to a nearby scrap yard while the two generators were hauled and offloaded into storage at Sheedy’s San Francisco yard to await transport back to the factory for refurbishment.
